Planting Seedlings For Our Greenhouse

Mural to protect our school gardens

We are currently designing a mural for above the Envirogroup garden. We ran a competition to gather the data on what the rest of the school thought should be in the murals and looked at what other schools had done.  We decided there were some key components that we wanted to include: 

• Birds, Native- fantails, tui, butterflies

• Flowers, vegetables Mahinga Kai

• Roots

• Colour

• Different elements/ seasons/ times

• A naturalistic take on our school logo

• Different people gardening - community 

• Maori concepts of sustainability which the teachers can use to teach (this was definitely the students' ideas and not Miss Prokop's)

We are very lucky to have a Birhcwoord parent Liz Penman to help us with our painting.  Here's a sample of what she's done in the past:

Anzac Poppies

The enivorgroup decided to plant poppies to get our school garden going this year. 

First there was a lot of weeding needed. 

 Then it was time to measure and dig the holes for putting our seedlings in. 

 We gently and lovingly tucked every plant in to the bed. 

Voila! Hopefully we will have flowers in 5 weeks' time!
